Why were 82% of Canadians who died from COVID not admitted to hospital?

Have you noticed that 82% of the people supposedly dying from COVID-19 in Canada are not dying in hospitals? Instead, they’ve died in nursing homes (according to the The Toronto Star.)

Why are they not being taken to hospital? Isn’t that why we are all social-distancing, locking down and wearing masks? So that there would be enough beds for people with COVID-19?

In Rosemary Frei’s article on the deathly conditions of nursing homes she quotes the federal government recommending that:  “Long term care facilities and home care services will be encouraged to care for COVID-19 patients in place and may be asked to take on additional non-COVID-19 patients/clients to help relieve pressure on hospitals.”

I can’t recommend her article enough.
