“You Stupid Anti-Masker!” — How not to take it personally…

My elderly neighbor told me I’m being “selfish, ignorant and irresponsible” for not wearing a mask.

The world’s most famous horror writer tweeted that those who don’t muzzle themselves suffer from “stupidity.”

And Ontario Premier, Doug Ford, had this zinger for anti-maskers: “If we weren’t so backlogged on MRIs, I’d send you to the MRI to get your brain scanned. Because I don’t think there’s anything in there.”

Well, Mr. Ford, would that not mean the dozen plus Danish scientists, who conducted a two-month randomized controlled trial on face masks, somehow received funding sans any brain cells? After all, these researchers found that muzzling oneself with a surgical mask provided only a 0.3% reduction in SAR-CoV-2 infection.

And, Mr. King, how did Professor Denis Rancourt, author of Masks Don’t Work, get that PhD in physics if he suffered from “stupidity?”

And, my dear neighbor, how did Dr. Vernon Coleman, author of Proof That Face Masks Do More Harm Than Good, become a bestselling medical writer being so “ignorant, irresponsible and selfish?”

My elderly neighbor, my comical premier and the author behind one of my favourite all-time movies, aren’t talking facts, they are name-calling like kids in a playground.

If the Prime Minister got on TV and said: “John C. A. Manley is an orange.” I wouldn’t care. I know I’m not an orange. Just like I know I’m not stupid, ignorant or irresponsible. I’ve spent hours reviewing the studies and listening to both sides.

Stupid would be doing something just so people won’t call me stupid.

Please, don’t take what people say so personally. People are scared, misinformed, and confused; and, just as often, well-meaning, caring and self-sacrificing. Let’s get our bruised egos out of the way and do whatever we can to push back against this second wave of disinformation enveloping the world.
